Climate Conversation: Ecomedia Literacy: Teaching About the Environment with Media with Antonio López

Join us for a conversation with the leading ecomedia scholar Antonio López hosted by Marek Oziewicz and Alexandra Panos. Antonio will introduce the notion of ecomedia literacy as a bridge between environmental education and media literacy. He will discuss how ecomedia literacy provides a framework for exploring media’s impact on the environment and how it can be used as a pedagogical tool for understanding systems thinking and ecology. 

Antonio López, Ph.D., is Chair and Associate Professor of Communications and Media Studies at John Cabot University in Rome, Italy and a leading international specialist of media literacy education. With a research focus on bridging sustainability with media literacy, he is currently one of the top global experts in the emerging field of ecomedia literacy. He is the author of four books and numerous other publications on the intersections of sustainability and media literacy. His most recent book is Ecomedia Literacy: Integrating Ecology into Media Education (Routledge 2021). As a producer of dozens of youth media projects, Antonio has collaborated with MacArthur Foundation, National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, Action Coalition for Media Education Summit, National Association of Latino Arts and Culture, and National Rural Health Organization.
